Activity Idea - Paper Plate Shakers

This activity is great for multicultural activities and fine motor skills.

Suitable for ages to school age children.

You will need:

• Paper plates (large or small)
• Macaroni or similar
• Stapler
• Masking tape (wide)

Decorating ideas:

• Paints, collage, crayons, coloured pencils, coloured marker pens.

Method:

1. Let the children decorate the underside of the paper plate.
2. Fold the paper plate in half.
3. Place approximately a handful of macaroni inside folded paper plate.
4. Staple edge to seal macaroni inside folded plate.
5. Place masking tape along edge to cover staples.
6. Shake to music.

Get Creative:

• Use two paper plates which when joined make a round shaker.
• Experiment to see if different fillings or different amounts of filling make different sounds.
